what is “community-inspired” acupuncture?

The Acupuncture Lounge at TAOU Studio will move to 6 South Robinson Street once renovations are completed this spring.

We refer to our main offering at the clinic as “community-inspired acupuncture” because the space and treatments resemble that of “typical” community acupuncture as defined by “POCA” (The People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture) with a few notable differences:

First, our space — while technically one large open room — will have thick curtains dividing each person, creating a “semi-private” environment which help some individuals feel more at-ease and assists in deep rest during the treatment.

Second, where many community acupuncture settings have 8 or more chairs in one space, we keep our “small-group” setting to 4 or less people at a time. This allows the acupuncturist to spend more time with each person while maintaining a calm atmosphere.

Lastly, we recognize that community acupuncture clinics often offer sliding-scale, pay-what-you-can pricing to accommodate all members of their communities regardless of socioeconomic status. We refer to ourselves as “community-inspired” because our pricing model differs from that of a typical community acupuncture space. At $65 per treatment, our price point is a middle-tier option between standard community rates ($25-$50) and private acupuncture rates ($85-$150+).

In lieu of sliding-scale, we offer payment assistance packages on a quarterly basis based on individual need. To learn more about payment assistance, click here. We also plan to offer new package and membership options once we are up and running at our new space on 6 South Robinson Street.
